Down in the Boondocks is the second studio album by Billy Joe Royal released in 1965, the same year as his self-titled debut album.

There were three singles released from the album. The title track was first, and broke the top 10 with a #9 performance. The other singles fared slightly worse: "I Knew You When" reached #14 and "I've Got to Be Somebody" (1966) reached #38.

The album also landed on the Pop Albums chart, reaching #96.
